A comienzos del mes de enero comenzó el plan de seguridad ciudadana "Caracas segura 2008". La finalidad es tratar de acabar en la medida de lo posible con las docenas de personas que mueren cada fin de semana, con los miles de asaltos que se producen en el mes y con los cientos de secuestros.
Se cuentan con mil 250 policías metropolitanos, 800 guardias nacionales, 200 policías de Miranda, 50 efectivos de Policaracas y 80 oficiales del CICPC, que se deplegarán en cuatro parroquias del Área Metropolitanos.
Los caraqueños suñen con vivir en paz, tranquilos y, sobre todo, sueñan con poder transitar libremente en las calles de la capital. Según las autoridades encargadas de la movilización de los uniformados el índice delictivo disminuirá en los próximos meses gracias a las alcabalas que se instalaran en zonas estratégicas de la capital.
Por otra parte los policías harán visitas frecuentes a las barriadas de Caracas, en especial, Petare, Catia, Antímano y El Valle. La comunidad que vive allí espera que no sean puros cuentos de camino y que las autoridades se comprometan realmente a solucionar el problema grave de inseguridad que viven día tras día.
Los caraqueños ya estamos cansados de caminar con miedo en las calles de nuestra ciudad. La inseguridad ha rebasado los límites y ha convertido a los mismos ciudadanos en prófugos y en paranóicos. Cuando cae la noche el panorama empeora, hay que colocarse a la buena de Dios y rezar para no caer en las manos de los antisociales que matan por un celular o un par de zapatos. Esperamos que las autoridades cumplan su palabra y le den mano dura al hampa.
